“Long Distance Relationship (LDR) is an intimate relationship between two partners
who are geographically isolated from one another.”
— Long Distance Relationship on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long-distance_relationship)
In this present time, most relationships started over the internet. Whether you signed up for a “dating-site”, gave comment to a post and talked almost every day after that or you started as a close distance partners but the other one had to go abroad maybe for work, school or migration. These are some instances why long distance relationships happens.
I, myself is in a long distance relationship for fifteen months. It all started as a close distance but things happened. I moved to the USA to be with my family and start a new chapter in my life, being away from the person who made me feel good – from the person who I love the most. We had problems in the beginning understanding this kind of relationship, misunderstandings and tears fell. Like what BlushingKay’s recent blog post, I wouldn’t recommend it to those who are just curious and just “hey I love your LDR, I wish i had one” or “I want to try it”. It’s not my first time to read one comment that they wanted to experience engaging to a long distance relationships, because someone they knew is having so much great time with their relationship or is happy.
I have gotten help from friends and from a community who will understand my situation as they are also in the same situation as me. Having engaged in this kind of relationship is hard and frustrating. It requires a lot of patience, understanding and a lot more. You cannot stop the world from revolving and you cannot stop being in love with someone who makes you happy. And every relationship experience different fears, whether you are in a close distance or in a long distance relationship.
I may have encounter fears in my life, most in my relationship. Admit it, you have too right? One fear I recently felt was that I may not be able to come back home in time, spend time with my boyfriend and basically be with him. Engaging in a long distance relationship and plane tickets aren’t cheap, that is one of the biggest problem every people in a LDR encounter.
Like what I said, I am in a long distance relationship, and somewhat had a lot of chances to be friends and know someone who is also in this kind of relationship. And to help me do this post, I asked some of my friends who are in a LDR, “What are some of their fears being in a long distance relationship?”
And I’d like to thank these amazing people contributing to this post where I learned couple things about it. Thank you so much ladies!
And these are some of their shared opinions:
“Fears? I really don’t know. I guess mostly how much it hurts to be apart and fearing that it would make us grow apart.”

“My fear would be probably that he might fall out love, because: first we are apart from each other. But I don’t let that fear dominate what I feel. Naturally, I was afraid but when you love someone you are willing to take a risk. So whatever happens, just take risk especially if you know someone is really worth it. Besides, this distance is just temporary and what’s important is you love each other and that’s what matters most.

“Fears? I think it’ll sums up her unfaithfulness to me. That would probably my number one fear.”
- Mgz | Facebook
It’s pretty scary that we experience these fears. But all we know, we only feel this because we love that person and we will do everything for that person. A simple advice to all those who are in long distance relationship, have faith and stay strong!
How about you, what are some of fears you experience being in a long distance relationship? Or basically being in a relationship?
